
Imogiri, situated in the Yogyakarta region of Java Island is one of the Indonesia Java International Destination. Imogiri, an Indonesia Java International Destination, is the official cemetery ground for the descendants of the royal dynasty in the region of Surakarta and Yogyakarta. Imogiri is located on a beautiful hill and is at a distance of 12 km from the city of Yogyakarta. The graveyard of the royal descendants can be reached by climbing 345 numbers of stone steps. The tomb of Sultan Agung Hanyokrokusmo who is the third king of the Islamic Mataram kingdom is present in this cemetery. The cemetery consists of the bodies of all kings of the Mataram kingdom and their families starting from the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono I till Hamengku Buwono IX. The Imogiri cemetery was constructed in the year of 1645 and is a favorite tourist spot. Tourists visiting this cemetery do not mind climbing up the 345 number of stairs to visit the top of the hill which consists of the tombs of the kings who were buried here. There are restrictions placed on certain parts of the cemetery. Entry is allowed for everyone into the smaller courtyards which consists of the tombs of the princess. These tombs can be viewed only on Monday from 9:00 to 12:0o hours and on Friday from 13:00 to 16:00 hours. The tourists visiting this cemetery should be in the traditional Javanese dress provided by the cemetery administrations at a rented rate that is affordable. During the holy month of Ramdhan, this cemetery is closed.
